This Sperimentale also known as a GTO Prototype is probably the only “Factory Entry” to compete in a color other than red. As seen here it has been restored to its original 1961 Le Mans Livery.
Utilizing a type 168/61 “Testa Rossa” engine with six carburetors #2643 debuted in a Le Mans in 1961 where it ran in the top ten until the engine expired at the 12 hour mark. In 1962 it was driven to first in class and fourth overall by Sir Stirling Moss at Daytona. Then sold to NART and raced at Sebring where it finished eighth overall and a Le Mans finishing fourth overall. It was later sold to Bill Luftman and was campaigned extensively throughout the eastern United States.
