This Concours is hosted annually at the Amelia Island Ritz-Carlton, off the coast of Northeast Florida and is now consider the second finest in the world just an inch behind the Pebble Beach Event.

The focus of my Automobile Work for this year’s event was again on the machine itself. Being just another face in the crowd among thousands of other admirers however this can be a challenge. Lighting is determined by the weather, location and a steady stream of onlookers passing by make it very difficult to capture images with no people in them. I always attempt to emphasize and intermingle the amazing elements of Florida however, a mantra or blending of sorts, based on my inspirations of both nature and art in steel.

In laying out this edition, when available, I display two images of the same vehicle together. Each image is handcrafted and although I shot many more at the event they just did not meet my personal quality standard. The crowds did prohibit me from producing quality images of every car in the event, which is always my goal !

All of these images are available in print, in any format on online. Large format Canvases are our specialty. We also produce private collection and group event books on request at very reasonable rates.

Riding Into History has been hosted annually at the World Golf Village Hall of Fame in St. Augustine Florida for 11 years raising over $220,000 for various charities with an average of 350-400 world class classic motorcycles from all over the nation on display.

In this edition as with my recent Concours d'Elegance publication, when available I display two images of the same motorcycle together. I do handcraft each of my images and although I shot many more they just did not meet my personal quality standard. The crowds did prohibit me from producing quality images of every bike in the event, which was my goal but I still feel I did get a get a good mix of the field and am already excited about getting out again next year to try out some new stuff.

Selected as the featured Bike Artist for 2009, the magazines run one article a year dedicated to bike art .  Joanne Morris did a wonderful write up and I will be forever greatful. Some excerpts from Joanne's article follow:

Nature and steel, seemingly diametrically opposed as subjects, are two of John's sources of inspiration that, for him, seamlessly coexist. “Nature is king and our world the simple things that usually go unnoticed by most are now my never-ending source of inspiration, says John. On the other hand, Steel and art are from man's nature…and I've always been inspired by the beautiful works people can create, he says. John sees bikes as part of the art world, steel art he calls them. He finds them amazing because, unlike traditional art and displays, bikes are designed to be interactive, in short, you can ride them.”

In making his shots of bikes, John's technique and perspective comes from his goal to capture the vision and dedication of the builder. To achieve this, he treats the metal as an icon, focusing only on the machine and eliminating all people in view. (Notice the angles of his shots.) He says, I found that the closer I got to the ground, the more heads and bodies I could hide.”

The Adams Views website was featured in the September 2008 issue of Shutterbug magazine by Joe Farace.  Some excerpts from Joe’s article follow:shuttercover

“....even more impressive is the quality of these high dynamic range images that live in a dreamy twilight zone somewhere between photography and a David Hockney photo-realistic painting.”

"...But it’s the photographs that are the star in Adams galaxy. You’ll never look at a sunrise or sunset the same way after you see the images in the “Sun, Sky and Water” gallery.  The intense colors showcased in stylish compositions take you to a world not at all that different than that what J.M.W. Turner painted.”

“...The images like many of the classic cars they depict are Happy Days on acid and exist in an alternate universe where art and machine collide”

You may read the entire feature here.

The Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance is quickly becoming on of the premiere is Concours events in the world second only to Pebble Beach. It is hosted annually at the Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island off the coast of Northeast Florida and although I am a local resident this year was the first time I had the opportunity to attend.

The focus of my Automobile Work for the event was on the machine itself and in laying out this edition, when available I display two images of the same vehicle together. I do handcraft each of my images and although I shot many more they just did not meet my personal quality standard.  Riding Into History is one of America’s premier Concours d’Elegance for motorcycles. It is held annually in mid-May at the beautiful World Golf Village, near St. Augustine, Florida, and it attracts thousands of spectators to view the hundreds of motorcycles on display.

Proceeds from the event benefit charities, and the staff consists of unpaid volunteers from BMW Owners of Northeast Florida, the Historic Motorcycle Society and other supporting organizations. Well over $200,000 has been contributed to breast cancer charities in the 10 years that Riding Into History has been held.

The motorcycles shown in this book were on display at the 10th Annual Riding Into History, held on May 19, 2009. These and other entrants, along with the outstanding venue, have drawn consistent praise over the years.

Peter Egan, editor of Cycle World said, “The big shaded circular promenade at World Golf Village is the best place I've ever seen for a bike show.”

Dennis Gage, producer and host of Speed TV programs noted, “With the World Golf Village as its backdrop, this is the premiere motorcycle Concours d'Elegance in North America.”

Perhaps Motorcycle Hall of Fame member Craig Vetter summed it up best when he said, “A good cause, good people and good bikes. It doesn't get any better than that."

A Post By Ferrell Mccollough - Yea! it’s very exciting to see it has finally arrived. I visited a Barnes and Noble book store and my book was on the shelf. I whipped out my camera phone and took a shot:

In my book “Complete Guide to High Dynamic Range Digital Photography” there are 5 contributing artists. Have a look at their amazing images on flickr and you will realize why they are they are internationally recognized in HDR photography. Not only is their work phenomenal but they are all wonderful people. A big THANK YOU to the contributing HDR artists, John E Adams, Trey Ratcliff  of Stuck In Customs (Texas), Asmundur Thorkelsson  (Iceland), Valerio Pandolfi (Italy) and Domingo Leiva  (Spain).

The book not only displays their work but it alhdrbookstore.jpg - 157.36 Kbso includes a statement from them about HDR, what it means to them and how it inspires them. This is a “How to” book with coffee table qualities.

If you already have the book it would be great to get some feedback. Please feel free to write a review at any one of the bookstores: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Borders.

Here is an email I received last week (24 June 2008) from the publisher of my book:

Ferrell, Just thought you might like to know that your book is #1 on BookScan, which is the data base that keeps track of all books sold in the US. Your book is outselling every other photography book in the country right now!!! Haley Pritchard, Photography Books, Editor Lark Books.

Eddie Trotta graciously submitted one of my images of his amazing bike to Easyriders Magazine and they published it with the feature article in the Jun 2008. It is featured with the main article right next to the centerfold.  View a large copy of the image here!

Joanne Morris – Easy Riders and V-Twin Magazines March 2009

This edition is a collection of John' s favorite images from the Bike Week and Biketoberfest motorcycle events held in Daytona Beach, Florida 2008-2009.

I live on the edge of the past in the rural south somewhere between the Okeefenokee Swamps and Islands of Cumberland where each day I discover a new wonder.

This edition represents two years of my life, a rediscovery of a long lost passion for photography, a newly discovered drama in color, admiration of life’s simple wonders and beauty my shutter could just not pass by without a click.

The focus of my bike work up to this point and in this edition has been on the machine itself. Being just another face in the crowd among thousands of other admirers however this can be a challenge. Lighting is determined by the weather, location and a steady stream of onlookers passing by make it very difficult to capture images with no people in them.

In this edition I attempted to emphasize and intermingle the amazing elements of Florida, a mantra or blending of sorts, based on my inspirations of both nature and art in steel. I often use quotes when displaying images but in this edition decided to let the images speak for themselves.

A fine art photographic collection of some of the finest custom built bikes by the some of the worlds most talented builders that attended the Daytona Bike Week 2008 held in Daytona, Florida.

gaiaA juried selection process, one of my images was selected and published in Gaia The Living Planet a second in a series of books celebrating the inspirational creativity of the Global International RedBubble Community hosted in Australia. A way of taking a moment to remind ourselves of the startling beauty of this world and the consequences of the ways in which we choose to live in it.

The Hofwyl Broadfield Plantation State Park in Brunswick, Georgia has a couple of my images in the Park Brochures. This is a beautiful place to visit and photograph.  They also have a huge stand of 600 year old oak trees.
